The Case Mix Programme (CMP) is an audit of patient outcomes from adult general critical care units (intensive care and combined intensive care/high dependency units) covering England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
All Critical Care units collect data on all patients they admit to the units then submit the audit to ICNARC (Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre). The data is compared with the outcomes from other similar patients, similar units and all the units in the CMP. The unit receives a Data Analysis Report which identifies trends over time showing how the unit compares with others and helps the unit understand more about the care they deliver, therefore we set up an Audit group for our network with the aim to assist in decision-making, resource allocation, information exchange and local quality improvement.
